Chinese texts for beginners: with translation, pinyin and audio

Short texts and dialogues to read, by HSK level. Pinyin over every line, a recording for each, and the translation opens with a tap. At the end: the new words of the level and questions on the text with answers. Every text uses only the words of its level — nothing you haven’t learned yet.

How to read so it actually helps

  1. First read the text in characters, peeking at the pinyin only where you don’t remember the reading.
  2. Listen to each line and repeat it out loud — tones stick through the ear, not the eyes.
  3. Open the translation only when a line doesn’t make sense.
  4. Answer the questions at the end without looking at the text, then check yourself.

All the dialogues in one list are on the page “Chinese dialogues for beginners”. Look up words you don’t know in the Chinese dictionary or in the lists for HSK 1, HSK 2 and HSK 3. Ready-made phrases for conversation are in “Chinese phrases”.

Reading, inside the lessons

In the course every word is first heard in a dialogue, you build a phrase with it and say it out loud — and texts start making sense on their own. You can start for free.
